2005 Yamaha R1 motorbikebicycle
I wanted to understand the bike I was riding. With confidence in his abilities, Korey waged a two-year battle, working long hours for parts money and finding the time to rebuild from the block up. As the motor rested on a stand, boxes of parts shipped out for a bling bath at Gorilla’s Polishing. Kelly Lemon with Hot House Custom Paint took an idea Korey conjured up to the next level by layering various coats of House of Kolor oriental blue over the abstract graphic motif. Numerous layers of clearcoat were then applied and polished by Choate Paint & Body for a mirror finish. Money spent on aesthetics left little for power adders—a minor detail for a guy happy with the Yamaha’s natural giddy up. The hardest part of electronics is pinpointing the issue.” On one hand, he had a show bike that turned out unexpectedly well for a first time attempt.

2004 Yamaha YZF R6 motorbikebicycle
Keen eyes will notice a larger exhaust outlet. Peak power on the new model was down a couple (to 100.7 at 12,700 rpm) as measured on Hansens dyno compared to the ’03 model we ran on the White Brothers dyno last year. Our test group all commended the R6′s lithe feel. It’s nearly the lightest in the group (391 lbs., tank empty), and its diminutive size between the legs helps make its rider feel capable of dominating the bike during extreme maneuvers. There is negligible wind protection from the compact fairing, but an 80-mph breeze helps take weight off a rider’s wrists. Helping matters is the silky engine that was universally judged to be the smoothest in class. The R6′s 4-piston monoblock brake calipers are familiar to all by now, but combined with the 298mm dual discs up front, they’re still up to task. The front binders have a softish initial bite but with plenty of power when squeezed with authority, aided by an ultra-firm lever that makes a rider confident he could run it deeper into the corners.
